Title: PayPal Scam.. caught
Post by: EVL LS1 on May 16, 2008, 07:13:05 PM
just wanted to give you guys a headsup on a PayPal scam i just was apart of.. i tracked the shipping address and the name/address didn't match first of all.. then sent the person a $ request AFTER they said they sent the funds and their email was not registered with paypal.... 2nd clue.

downloaded a program that shows icons of verified email address such as paypal, ebay, aol, etc.. it's called iconIX  it's free... the logos/icons show up next to the verified email addresses

finally called paypal and asked and they said it was a scam. the paypal email "confirmation" said that funds were sent BUT will ONLY be transfered once a shipping tracking number has been confirmed...

if you get such emails forward them to SPOOF@paypal.com  they will take care of the matter

here's the email i recieved:

"You've got new funds!

yeah sounded fishy to begin with. i looked up his "sister"'s name and it was at a different address than he gave... the name was in some trailer park in NH... the address he gave came back to like 6 ppl... may be apartments though...

just got to be careful there's a lot of ppl out there trying to make a buck by F'n you over... noone wants to work for their money now-a-days

the email looked totally different than REAL paypal emails when $ is sent.. i deal with PP all the time so it was easy to catch but those of you who rarely use it may get fooled. just wanted to make a heads up because i hadnt' seen this scam before

i've got gold/diamond rings up for sale.

lol hell yeah. i use to do that kind of shit when i was younger. i made some deltrees and junk that would delete all the major directory's and files then it'd reboot your computer to a blank screen =)

i was looking for a site where it'd flood an email but couldn't find one

haha i called this mother fucker out and he wrote me back saying

" I never said the package will go to her house. I'm not stupid to give her home address to a unknown person. And I did well you're kind of obsessed maniac. I never said I'm located in NH. Your "investigation" is pathetic. And I think you didn't read the entire email from Paypal, that was your problem. I requested funds to be returned to me.

Blocked"

got an email from paypal too

"Dear donald jackson,

Thanks for taking an active role by reporting suspicious-looking emails.
The email you forwarded to us is a phishing email, and our security team
is working to disable it."
