Hey guys, i had my boy post in YFZ Central about his issue but only 2 responses. Maybe you guys can help us.
hey guys, had a problem today while trail riding.
so all day my bike was running perfect, about half way through the day i came to a complete stop to take a break with the guys, turned off the bike, and about 5 minutes later i went to turn the bike back on and NOTHING,when i press the power button, i get a loud click by the battery and the power to the lights would go off, so i figured the battery just died, simple fix just pull start me, so we did that it worked...
now this is where the problem began, about 1hr later after some hard riding, i noticed the bike wasn't running so smooth, at top speed it would bog out, so i slowed down and as i got in 2nd gear, i herd some clonking noise and the bike just came to a stop by itself. i tried starting it and again the starter did not work so just thought it was the battery, the guys tried to pull start me and the same things would happen as above where the battery would make a loud noise, you couldn't even hear the starter trying to kick over ,I charged the battery last night and still getting the same thing.
only thing i could think of it the spark plug went bad. but im not to sure...
OK That was his story, the guys over at YFZCentral suggested rod bearing failure. What are your thoughts?

cluncking is never good :'( If you pull the spark plug does the engine spin nicely? What year is it? (Please don't say 04 or 05 :'()

I have a feeling that's what it is. The clunking noise just before it died isn't a good sign. The same thing happened to my buddies '04.

it is an 06' we havn't pulled the sparky yet. Going to try to get to it tonight.

took out the spark plug last night and the same thing was happening

Sounds like perhaps a rod bearing :mad:

symptoms are the same and ive heard of 06's doing the same thing

yes it is an 06. so what do you guys expect labor and parts would cost to fix it? assuming its a stealership that charges about 75 per hour??? Thanks again... wish i knew how to do engine work my self would help save him money. sucks that he bought this quad used like 1 month ago and its worked perfect until now

yep 75/hr sounds about right.
theres probably a good step-by-step on yfzcentral if you feel like oding it yourself though. if you need a new crank and shit i doubt you can get away less than $500

if you are anywhere near MI, I would be happy to take care of it, I have done a few now, it's not that hard
once the parts are in, it takes about 2 evenings after work
I would suggest a WR450f crank(hotrods), rod and piston
oil mod if it doesn't have it already... 2006 should already have it
you will most likely need a new cylinder (around 200 bucks)
