Title: How can I make the 700 corner tighter? What suspension settings for +2 arms?
Post by: r00st on August 07, 2008, 10:55:53 PM
I am trying to work the bugs out of my rappy one thing at a time. I didnt like how tippy it was so I am in the process of some +2 LT with motowoz.

The more seat time I get on it, the more I realize the cornering is HUGE on this thing! Especially after riding my buddies LTR's I notice how wide the turning circle is. Even compared to my Old 50 inch wide DS730 its larger.

I am now worried with the total +4 inches on the front it will get even larger.

What setting would lessen the turning radius? caster? I dont want to mess up how it handles at speed though.

What are good overall settings (caster, camber , toe) for the front end with +2??? I would like it to handle everything well, not just slow speed or high speed. I will sacrifice something like turning radius to make sure its not twitchy at high speed. Any hep is appreciated!

I ride woods trails, fast open fields and occasional MX. The slower paced trails is when I really notice the what seems to be loose front end (pre +2 arms!).

Thanks!
Mike

damn roost, buy some $hit already! HAHA!

To get smaller turning radius, crank bars, lean, mash throttle. Instant 180 turn :grin_nod:

I KNOW I KNOW! Damn I am going to have to start Paypal'ing everyone a dollar per response, or everyone will just think im spamming the forums!

Dont worry I plan to have the shocks/arms ordered through KB in the next week :)

Ya the 180's are easy enough to do, but at slow speeds this thing's turning circle is huge! I am surprised for how narrow she is stock! That is why im worried it will get even WORSE with my front end getting 4 inches of added width.

I would start of by getting a set of 4+1 wheels with some GOOD front tires. Then get a good review on how to set up suspension, and follow it to the "t".

I know that they YFZ's have an adjustable steering stop on the stem. That might allow you to get a little more steering. That should work on the rappy.

I have noticed that the raptor does'nt turn for shit! When you turn the tires all the way one way they just push instead of turning.

There is a MX track here that has a couple of turns that is tighter than the rappy can turn, and whipping it can get pretty tricky.

Verify your toe -in for the front tires.  On tight trails I like a touch of negative toe (Tires just beyond straight).  Seems really to help bringing the rear around in corners.

Is there any negative at all to going with 4+1 rims like do the rims bend easier or anything?

4+1 rims are just as strong, and are easier on the suspension parts and your arms. You will see less bump steer.

w/ my GNCC Front tires, I noticed instantly that I didnt' get that at all like I did w/ the stock tires. they gripped and threw you that way instantly. It proves how much a good set of front tires can mean really.
