newK&N airfilter
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:22:25 PM »
well i have been running the gytr intake and filter. The filter was showing some signs of wear,so i decided to replace today. I went to the local autoparts store and got the biggest K&N filter i could find with a 3.5" inlet hole. Lets just say i have no airbox now .I ended up cutting the whole aibox apart to fit it in.I did reinstall the sides of the airbox to hold the computer and the rear tail section up. This big airfilter made such an improvement that i couldnt believe it  before it felt like it just would fall on its face at a certain point and rpm. Now it pulls like a mofo and no map adjustment ??? My theory is that with the extensive mods i have done to this, the gytr does not flow enough air for them to work properly. Now that iam flowing enough air, lets just say i have perma grin right now.Is this a common improvement or did i just get lucky? I think exentix will be posting some pictures soon. I dont how big of an airfilter most people have but this thing is a monster. any input greatly apprecitaed

I wouldnt use a K&N filter ever again. If you ride in dusty conditions they allow way too much dirt thru. From gncc to mx all those racers use foam. Wonder why???

No matter what filter you use your still going to pass dust through. Unless we ride in a bubble  My gytr intake and filter passed dirt also.If i could find a foam filter that was this big i would use it,but i found my gytr was no where near big enough as far as cfm volume. So im sure a foam filter isnt either. The part number is
E-1009. I had to remove my gytr intake from the airbox and insert it into the end of the filter. Then i cut the bottom out and then cut it at all 4 corners. slip the filter and intake into the rubber intake tube. Then remount the sides of the airbox in original location so you can still hold the computer and tail section in place. This filter is huge and will not fit into the stock airbox, even if you cut just the bottom out :grin_nod:

I still like the k&n but you must keep it oiled and maintained and for sure run the outerware pre filter if you dont want to have to check it all the time then get a uni or twin air foam filter

yea we probably wont find an outerwear for it tho  if foam is better for dust, why is it my friends house is dusty as any other place you could ever find, and it ran like crap with a foam filter there, i took it out and cleaned it and it was fine, (this was when it was BRAND NEW) and next time i went up there i had my jets and a k&n and it ran twice as good, no problems at all  ???

The reason most people buy K&N is just because of the name, most foam filters or cheaper filters that are similar to the K&N work just as great. People just pay for the brand name anymore. I am not talking bad about the filter, don't get me wrong I have had one. But now I just use a GYTR filter. It works just as good.
