update so here it is quick and simple or so one would think i got into the carbs to find out why the headers were glowing so much and why it was still having a REALLY hard time to turn over and get back to low rpm well turns out it was hydrolocking thanks to the throttle shafts and seals being wore out badly well guess what the 4 little seals cost from yamaha?.................

yamaha wants $2000 for them little seals :jaw: thier reasoning for it you have to buy a whole new carb you cant get JUST the seals or the shafts and each carb is like $1000  so for the 2 seals in each carb i would have to spend $2000......yeah not gonna happen i went online to www.motorcyclecarbs.com then looked up the Mikuni carbs well they dont have the raptor carbs so i had to look up the carbs closest to the raptor make and get the parts from that now i have the seals but the shafts well lets put it this way the carbs have been sitting at the machine shop now for about 3 weeks to have the shafts built back up and get some brass bushings made to put in them aswell to help slow the amount of wear. now im just hoping they will be done asap so i can get the raptor out for a ride on my birthday on may 7th or the weekend of.

dang. that's unreal that you can't just buy an oring.

I just ran into that problem sorta w/ the wifes motorcycle. headlight went out mid last week, I got off work early on thurs to ship some stuff out and I figured I'd hit up a few places to see if they have a bulb for it. (sealed beam headlight)

went to an auto store they said no.


went to a local motorcycle place, they said no and that only a dealership would be able to order it


went to the local yamaha dealer. Looked it up, none in stock. Asked if they could order one.. the guy laughed and said... Im assuming you don't want to order one. I asked why? ???

for a new headlight off a 1980 XS400..... $120 for a light.. are you kidding me?!!!


so me being the handy person I am. I tore apart the bulb. Which is the same connection as an automotive H4 bulb. And got it working again... $6 and about 1 hour of time taking it apart and making it fit. vs $120.. aww yea!

yeah really and man think about it a quad worth like 3-4000 and 2 parts for it are gonna cost 2000 come on yamaha way to make people just sell the quad and get a cheap hondick  :mad: what the hell are they thinking thats stupid no its cheaper alot of the time now days just to go buy a new toy then it is to fix it.

nah man thanks for the offer tho you got them for spares and take it from me if your throttle shafts & butterflies wear out then your gonna be wanting them lol i think this machine shop is gonna have it all fixed for like 40-50 bucks if that i just have to wait for them to get done is all.
