Title: Works or 2008 SE?
Post by: Livingmylife93 on October 23, 2010, 10:44:44 PM
Do you guys think these works shocks are more worth the buy
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-YFM700r-Raptor-front-16-0-in-shocks-order-/330383148571?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cec5ec61b

Or would a regular 2008 SE shock perform better? Adjustability? Ride Quality?

I ride XC and MX

Whatever shock i choose will be used with a +3 setup. Im 200lbs.

The SE shock is better in EVERY way except for one, it won't be setup for your extended a-arms.

If you absolutely do not/cannot redo the SE shocks for your atv, then you will have to buy these or something like them that is setup for your bike and suspension.

Wider a-arms + 200lbs + MX track = bad idea for stock SE shocks.

it will be very expensive to redo the se's and buy them vs going with the works since you can get them set up for what you need.

if it were me i would save up and get a better shock with a rezzy and more adjustment. that style works shock will heat up faster and fade toward the end of the race, but if your just goofing around try the works and upgrade later if you have to.

Save up a little more and get the SE shocks redone to fit your needs.  The Works shocks aren't adjustable except for preload.

Agreed. Don't take half-ass measures, just get the right shocks the first time around.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I dont mean to be a smart ass, but getting the good stuff the first time isnt the answer im looking for. Im never going to dump that much money into the suspension on my raptor at this age. Im looking to spend no more than 300 on shocks.

So i just want to know what would be a better choice out of these two.

Thanks  8)

See my previous post for my answer, that coincides with your re-definition of your question.

If you absolutely do not/cannot redo the SE shocks for your atv, then you will have to buy these or something like them that is setup for your bike and suspension.

AT-Steelers are not for the mx track, but if you're going to be cheap it's your best option.

IF your not going to "dump" that much in shocks you need to ditch the +3 arms.  Otherwise its going to ride like pat hitting stumps

You could get a decent set of SE shocks for around 300 or less...I think Adamraptor has a set he'd sell you for a good price also.

Thanks again guys.

Either way, if i got the works shocks set up for me and my setup, its still gonna ride better than my pogos correct?

Not a whole lot better...very marginally imo. But it is your quad and money, so ultimately it is your choice.

I would consider these also: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-RAPTOR-700-YFZ-450-ELKA-FRONT-SHOCKS-04-05-06-07-/300483939256?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45f63d0bb8#ht_500wt_1182

thos are very nice. Ill put a bid in on those closer toward the end of the auction if its still in my price range.

Would anybody wanna give me the run down on shocks, just so i know what im doing and understand what you guys mean. What are the differaent adjustments and what do they mean? All i know is rezzi is good, but idk why. And can a non rezzi shock can offer as nice of a ride?

Im leaning towards the works shocks beacause they would be setup for me, but not if they wont ride much better than my pogos. I ride %70 trails %30 mx. Im looking for overall a smooth ride and less bottoming out.

If I was on a budget I would buy the stock raptor SE shocks. They have a piggyback reservoir, compression, rebound, and pre-load adjustment. The works shocks are an emulsion shock that have no adjustments other than a few notches of pre-load. Plus, if you look into the future and you have the funds to upgrade the oem components that avenue is also open. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask and I will steer you in the right direction.

So SE shocks are still the better choice even though they wont be setup for my a-arms, riding style, etc?

The works would be made for my +3s, my weight and riding style.

Thanks alot, i guess SE's are really the way to go?

Are you actually +3 arms or is it the bracket kit that just moves the mounts out?

I ordered a set of Works Triple Rate shocks set up for my weight, riding style, and a-arms for $300 shipped brand new. I even got to choose what color springs i wanted.  :nana:
