Will they work? I'd assume it would be a descent upgrade if it would...
Yes, very common upgrade. You have to do some grinding to gain clearance, but pretty easy.
You will loose an inch of travel with yfz shocks the 700's with resivoirs are supposed to be the same length as the 660's.
Eye to eye the YFZ shock is actually a bit longer (just shy of 1/2 inch by my measurements) than the 660 OEM shock (without weight), at least the 06 and earlier shocks. Don't know about the hi/lo speed compression shocks. So I guess I don't see where you're losing travel.

Well I stand corrected. I just went out and measured my stock 660 and my stock 06 yfz shocks and you are correct. I get the same measurement on both 15 1/2 inches. Guess I was going off what people have said about the yfz shocks lowering the raptor an inch and the shocks from my standard travel +2 a arms which measure 16 1/4, but after further inspection have the same amount of rod showing, roughly 5 inches , which is the same as the stock shocks so this should give the same amount of travel, I did not check the collapsed length, maybe some other time.
Man I hate it when I'm wrong I usally research better than this, before I post. I dont like putting out wrong information.
I know for the 700's from experience that they are dropped 1-1.5 inches.
i found a brand new pair of front shocks off of an 08 yfz is the grinding and everything else the same for that year? thanks i know the 09's are longer and i def dont my rappy any higher than it alread is ya know!

I think you will find that this is to do with spring preload.
Bear in mind that the 450 is about 20kg or 45lb lighter.
any body know if the 08 and 09 front shocks will work on my 660?
i found another pair for sale brand new off a yfz 450r im waiting to hear back from the guy im not sure if its an 08 or an 09 and i heard that the 09's will not work but im not sure why
help me out asap!
thanks
ok i found my answer on another site, the 09's are longer and wider and will work only if you put LT arms on or if you move the mount on the stock arms they are approx. 2 inches longer than the 08's and prior
in case anybody else has the question
??? Really? hmm nifty
but i think they work on the 700's peels!

That's for the YFZ450R, the regular yfz still uses the old shocks.

damn! glad you told me ive been trying to find 08 and older shocks for my 660. i was told both were different but that makes sense!
thanks mad dog
i jsut bought a set of 08 2 months ridden front shocks! hell ya! they ship today cant wait!
What did you pay?
150 plus shipping which ended up being $174 total i bought them off of yfzcentral
Sounds good, hope they turn up as sweet as they sound.
All the best
thanks, i do too because thats almost a too good to be true deal.
i got a quote from the yamaha dealer and the price was $580 per shock
ive talked to the seller a few times he has been available with knowledge and updates and returned/answered every call as far as shipping and everything else ive had questions with and they shipped when he said they would. when they arrive tomorrow as far as the ups tracking said a couple minutes ago i will do a write up on this site and yfz central letting people know he is trustworthy.
That sounds about the right price. It really depends on what year YFZ they are off of. Sometimes off YFZCentral you can score some SWEET deals! 2 years ago I bought 06' YFZ Shocks were used for 5 hours supposedly, got them, literally no dirt, the plastic covers inside the shock coils werent' even worn at all... Scored them for $125 + Shipping!!!!!
nice, ya these shocks are off of a 08 and the guy switched to fox shocks and was keeping them as spares but was low on money. he said they were used for 2 to 3 months, picture looked very clean and typical wear if any.
i bought them off yfzcentral and there are usually people everyday with a pair for sale between 04 and 08, i even found a pair of 09's never ridden off of the 450r for $350 ! if i had LT arms i def woulda bought em
i cant wait til they get here tomorrow!
give us the ride report. I know when I upgraded from my 06' stock 700 pogo sticks, the YFZ's were NIGHT AND DAY difference!!!
I definitly will! i just received them 2 hours ago from ups and they are exactly as pictured and just what was expected.
the dude i bought em from turned out to be a great seller and followed through to my total satisfaction! which is really good because i had western union'ed "Money in minutes" to him.
his user name on yfzcentral is 08yfz450rider and as far as my experience i would def buy from him in the future except for the fact that i dont need any yfz parts.
i already grinded the small amounts off the bottom of each shock and em going to finish the control arms and small upper bracket grind today or tomorrow after work.
i will be riding it on sunday and cant F'ing wait!
il give a ride report sunday or monday!
How do you tell what year they are? I got a pair last year and they're in good shape for a $190.

he told me, he has an 08 that he bought fox shocks for.
still havent had a chance to ride!
anyhow i noticed that some of the yfz shocks have a code on the bottom of "A37T"
i cant figure out what this means.
my yfz 08 shocks have a code of i think " A K70" or something like that i cant remember for sure and im not able to look at them causes im not at home.
so anybody know waht the difference is?
nope, but bet they waayyy better than the stockers, & thats what matters

No idea. I'm guessing they may be different codes possibly for different valving, because each year they seem to tweak them a bit.
