Starting issues!!!
« on: December 09, 2008, 01:52:38 PM »
Hi everyone,

I was a member on the "other rappy site" but this one rocks. And I am glad we still have a VIP section. But anyways my rappy has been sitting for 6-8 months, i know i should have been riding but my little bros bike is down and in need of a major rebuild so i have been helpin him when i had time. I did not put in any fuel stabilizer or drain the tank. When i go to start the bike, I push the start button but nothing happens, I have to turn the key off and on, then turn the switch back to off/start then it works fine. to make matters worse it was sitting in my back yard for about 3 weeks while we remodeled our shop for more room. Today it fired right up but would cut off when it was idling. I rode it for about 10 mintues but it never wanted to stay running unless i was in the gas. When i wnet to the shop and unloaded it, it wouldnt even start. Finally the battery went bad till i got a buzzing sound from the starter. I guess that meant i was out of juice in the battery. I know how to drain the gas in the tank, but what about the thorttle body.  I plan on new oil, filter, and spark plug to start. What gives?

Bad gas.

But the electrical problem sounds like a short? Take an air gun and blow it out around the key fob, and the start button..

+1 bad gas for sure. If you pull the tank to drain the gas, you will see the main fuel line that powers the throttle body, unhook that and you should be good to go.

Drain the fuel for sure.

Add new gas, and make sure your battery connections and air fliter are clean.

Glad to have you on board with us.

throttle body OK. It is just like the venturi area of a carburetor. Just with a fuel injector, not jets.

hey guys didnt the 06raptor 700 have problems with the fuel pump being bad. maybe by turning the key and switches on and off its reseting the computer and/or fuel pump and then it will work.but then the pump is cuttingin and out. I agree with all other options above too, just thought this might be an option if all else fails

The fuel pump is on a relay so after the keys turned on it runs till it pressurizes then shuts off so that parts normal.  In addition to draining the bad gas and the other above suggestions I would get a battery charger and make sure the battery voltage is is at least 13V then maybe get a tender and keep it on it beings it sits for long periods of time.
