I recently acquired a VholdR video camera via Christmas. This camera rocks.

Here are some of my videos. Youtube sucks, but if you have the patience watch them in HD. The option is just below the volume icon to switch to HD or high quality. http://www.youtube.com/user/4gunz4x4z (http://www.youtube.com/user/4gunz4x4z)

The VholdR can only record up to 2 hours of video. They are in the works on a firmware that will let it record up to 4 hours, but that is down the road. The battery life is 2 hours. I have run out of video time before I have run out of battery life so far. The video is stored in a miniSD card. You can use up to 2 gig card (I recommend a 2gig). It is light weight and very easy to forget you are wearing it on your helmet. The VholdR came with a helmet mount, usb cable, software, and a battery. The helmet mount is very easy to install. The adhesive on the mount is very similar, if not the same, as a quick release goggle strap. I took a small tree branch to it in 3rd gear and it stayed on, surprisingly.

Its function is very simple. Push button operation for on/off/laser site. It has a slid on top to activate record and a beep to verify the record on/off. Before hand I was worried I wouldn't be able to hear the "beeps" while riding. This ended up not be an issue. I could hear the "beeps" of the record on/off slide with ease, even while riding.

It has a laser pointer on it to adjust the horizontal view. The eye of the camera is 192* adjustable, so no matter how you mount it the VholdR will record at a horizontal view. Here are a few pics of it.

Between a 1-10 (1=horrible, 10=excellent)
I give it a 10 for function. It is way easy to operate.
I give it a  5 for video time. I would love to be able to record for more then 2 hours.
I give the battery life an 9. Seems about the norm for any electronics these days and I never ran out of battery before video.
I give the appearance and size a 10. Compared to a "Hero" this thing kicks its a$$ in a Kung-Fu fight.
I give the sound quality a 6.5. It has some wind issues, but thats mainly due to haul'n a$$, but they could look into it a little.
Overall I give this video camera a 8.75.

This is a "D" battery.

The VholdR can disconnect from the mount for easy use.

The battery is advertised as having 2 hours of use time, but from my experience it has held a charge for longer then 2 hours. The camera allows the SD card to hold up to 2 hours max of recorded video. As of now you cannot use anything bigger then a 2 gig card, I tried a 4 gig and it didn't work. If you use a 1 gig SD card you will only be able to record up to an hour, 512m SD card will give you only half an hour of record time and so on. Copy?

In the red circle in pic it says "watch in HD" in blue. Click it for the option on a youtube video.

Yes it is self contained. The camera I pictured above is all you need to rock and roll with. No battery pack to worry about, no wires hanging, and it has a built in mic for recording sound. To charge battery or view video, simply plug in the USB cable to your PC.

The price is around $300-$400 with an SD card (Depends on who you buy from to get the SD card), Battery, Helmet mount, and USB cable. Of course you will have to do some searching to get the beast price. Twenty20 has them for sale right now at $329.00 w/SD card.

is there any way to get extra helmet mounts???

i think it would be cool to be able to put it onto a different helmet... (me and my bro in law) as well as have one mount for my helmet and have some film of some steep and deep powder skiing...

While browsing the internets I may have found some useful information.  I was reading about the battery charging red lite problem on the vholdr and came across this:  On Vholdr's actual site forums a guy mentions that the battery is the same as a BL-5C nokia battery.  This was a response from one of the VholdR owners.

"Naturally you might have a tougher time getting support if your "non-VholdR" battery blows up in your camera, but I think we can all bet that's probably not going to happen…

We have them as accessories as well for $30 which I believe is pretty comparable, but we're not in the business of selling Lith-ion batteries, we do video, so it won't break our hearts if you get your battery elsewhere."

This means that you can get batteries for much cheaper.  I have ordered a couple generic replacement nokia batteries off ebay for 15 bucks to give them a try.  The ones i bought are 1020 mah which are a little higher capacity than the stock vholdr ones.  I did a search, and others seem to be using them without problem, so im going to take the chance on them, figured others may want to know!
