draining tank, fuel filter change

Ok, so has anyone done this before?  I had some dirt that somehow got into my fuel jug and into my tank so I want to drain it and change the filter.

I could be wrong but i didn't think the 700 had a fuel filter

remove fuel lines, unbolt tank, open filler cap, turn upside down? not sure if the in-tank pump has a filter that is serviceable.

you can remove and inspect the filter on the fuel pump, its under a plastic shroud /baffle ... this is no known replacement filter available though it is removable

If it's anything like the other ATV fuel tank "filters" I've seen it's a wire mesh screen, not unlike the "filter" on the feed side of the oil tank headed to the engine.  Usually not fine enough to stop all dirt, which is why when you're low on fuel it's possible to pull the sludge and dirt from the bottom of your tank through into the fuel delivery system.  Cleaning the tank itself may yield more benefit than cleaning the filter, that and installing an inline paper filter.
