Ideas Please!
« on: May 22, 2008, 10:42:46 AM »
I'm looking to get something more out of my rappy . Right now i have the Big 3 installed and really like it, but am again ready to go faster. What is the next best thing to do to the rappy. Im thinking of JE or Weisco 11:1 piston and a HC stage 2 cam. Are there any others out there that out perform these ? I was also wonder how bad the install of them would be if i was to do it my self. Also i only have single GYTR exhaust but i cant justify spending $600+ on duals for not much more of a gain, so i know i will be restricting my exhaust. I think thats all for now.

BTW, Very nice site. :nana:

Duals are a worthy cuase if your going to go with the piston and cam upgrades.  The single exhaust will hold the potential of your build back quite a bit.

Thanks for the compliment on the site..

If you don't want to run Race Gas.. 11:1 piston is the wise choice. If you don't mind running a mix of 50/50 or 100% pure race gas, I'd suggest a higher compression piston.

As far as cam goes. HotCam's Stage 2 cam is the mmost common one you'll find. You can run stock springs still also. which is a money saver

Both are detailed very good in the Raptor Service manual.

I wouldnt mind running 50/50 but i think it would be much easier in the long run to keep it plain pump gas. Is 12.5:1 too much for pump gas ? Is there any other cams that you can use stock springs on that perform better ? Imma go to  check out the price for springs...

KIBBLEWHITE VALVE SPRING KIT -Your Price: $176.00
Hotcams Camshafts -Price: $159.35
JE Raptor 700 HC Piston-Price: $192.30
Wiseco Raptor -Price $159.44
Raptor700 Hotcam and JE piston Combo- Price $339.66

For the Kibble White Spring set I believe it's $165 total from Steve @ TQS. (if I remember correctly)

From reviews that I've read I hear the MegaCycle X-2 cam is out of this world. but required an upgraded spring.

the border for race gas / pump gas is right around 11:1. You could try running pump gas on the 12.5:1 piston but chances are you'd get pingning in the motor and would have to run at least a 50/50 mix. Socalrappy700 is running a 12.5:1 piston and he has to run mixed as well.

Stage III Hotcam......It will pick up 4-6 hp at your current peak, but up around 7500 rpm, it's worth 10 hp or more!! It also works with stock valvesprings. There will be a slight loss of bottom end torque(very slight), adding an 11:1 piston will bring it back. None of the current pistons are a great design, so I would go with the cheapest (disposable). The Wiseco usually fits this bill and is very durable. With these 2 changes you will be stunned by the power difference. A Dynatek programmable ignition would be next on the list as it really wakes up those two mods. This will be the most cost effective set-up.....

If you plan on going to a more extreme build, just go straight for the X-4 and I can get you a line on a corrected design piston. Then it will be on to a ported head, springs, big valves and TB, where the gains are simply phenomenal :grin_nod:
