I'm gonna tell you this ahead of time. The turning radius of the raptor is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! The stock suspension is nothing less than a pogo stick thats gone limp. They are tipsy, oh and did I mention that the turning radius BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really feel that I bought the quad for its motor and reliability.

To all the haters out there............... :bird: Outlaw is a good quad!

Not disputing the Outlaw isn't a good quad (Well at least powered by a great company j/k), but IRS is for utility bikes in my opinion. I think the best all around choice would be the Raptor. I'm a little cramped on an Outlaw, but not near as cramped like I am on a YFZ.

The 06's have garbage front shocks so a shock upgrade would be worth while
Overall I think you'll be very happy with everything else except the steering stem mount is probably worn & should be replaced. Check this out....

I don't think the shocks are that bad, personally. Unless you compare them to Aftermarket or the factory piggyback shocks. They can be rough on your shoulders and forearms, though if you really ride hard for a long time. So far, I have'nt really seen the need to spend the dough on them.
I can go a good way on my tank. Probably twice as good as a banshee.

The 06 "Pogo sticks" were ok in the begining but they have shown signs of age.  There is only 1 adjustment ( shock preload)  on my front shocks & no Rezzi's compared to the newer Rappy's, big difference IMO.  I've only ridden on aftermarket shocks once, 450R with triple rate Elka's & the ride was like butter on a MX track.  So your right its simply preferance on my part

you cant compare "old" raptor shocks to triple rate elkas, thats a completely different league

2006 Raptor 700R suspension

Front: Independent double wishbone
9.1 in. w/ 5-way preload adjustment

Rear: Cast aluminum swing arm
10.1 in. w/ rebound, compression & threaded preload adjustment

2009 Raptor

Suspension/Front Independent double wishbone w/piggy back High-/Lo-speed compression, rebound and threaded preload adjustment, 9.1-in travel

Suspension/Rear Cast aluminum swing arm w/rebound, High-/Lo-speed compression and threaded preload adjustment, 10.1-in travel

Yamaha certainly improved the Raptor's suspension since 2006, more adjustments
