Raptor 700 Motor Siezed ?
« on: August 13, 2009, 06:53:21 AM »
My buddy pulled into Co. this week and his Raptor 700 will not start.
He thought the battery, so he bought a new one and still no go.
The starter relay engages, and the starter gets hot, but the engine will not turn over.
We put it on my ATV jack, and in neutral, turned the axle by hand.
Put it in gear and let the clutch out, and cannot turn the axle, even with a pipe wrench.
I suspect the engine is siezed, but don't know what to check next.

Any Ideas?

Thanks fellas,

Ride On,

Steve

I know the motor is hard to turn over, a SURE fire way to check would be, hook it to another quad/vehicle, pull it slowly. put the rappy into 3rd or 4th, if the wheels just drag, you got a locked up rappy :(

When he got here, we put it in first and tried it.
He said he tried to pull start it with another quad on dirt and pavement in 4th.
Will try the highest gear tomorrow and see.

Thanks for  your input gents.

this is gonna sound bad but ive used diesel poured into the cylinder to unsieze engines before.  how long had it been before he rode it last?  oh and can u turn the crank backwards?  ive seen where rod bolts have backed out (kawi of course) but some sort of metal may be lodged.  or tranny is piled up

Kamakazi

Not sure how to turn the crank
is there a cover or something we can remove to expose "moveable" parts.
He rode it in Utah. Got back from a ride, turned it off and then it would not start if I correctly recall what he said.
He was passing through and will be back on Fri. or Sat.
Trying to get some hints to help a brother out.
Thanks for the diesel idea.
Given that it will NOT run, I don't think it will hurt anything to give it a shot.

ive only used diesel when a motor has sat for an extended period of time, like when a v8 sits for a year or 2.  as for the crank, ud probably have to take the clutch cover off and try to turn the clutch while in neutral.

There is a bolt/cover that you can take out on the left side of the engine, takes a huge allen wrench to take it out. Insinde that is a bolt that you can turn which directly turns the crank

Figure it out yet?  Could possibly be a valve train issue also.
