Oil leak
« on: July 08, 2009, 02:15:57 PM »
I recently traded for an 01 660. I have a small amount of oil leaking at the front of my cylinder. I'm assuming that it is the base cylinder gasket that is leaking. As I understand it I will need to replace this gasket, the o-ring inside and the head gasket. Is this right? What all will I need to pull apart? How big/technical of a job is this? Any help at all would appreciated. Also, how time critical of a thing is this to get replaced. It looks like its been seeping for a while, but not very much at all.

Nobody?? Nothing?? Well here is my plan... disassemble till I can pull the motor, remove the head, pull the cylinder off (up and off piston) clean, replace orings and gaskets, re assemble....sound about right?? I've never done this before so any tips or tricks would be really really appreciated.

That should work, use a service manual for instruction, and there is a walkthrough with pictures on raptortranny.com you can use from the the 686 install kit page, just use the diassembly and assembly parts.

Sounds about right. Word on the street is use an OEM gasket over say, a Cometic set for a stockbore right ? They seem to work best ?
