Post by: Johny_Ringo on February 11, 2011, 06:41:58 PM
Well this is what were starting with a 2006 raptor 700. Shes got problems but im gonna make it my mission to turn her from a tuesday afternoon lunch date toa friday night naughty throwdown!!

All stock except handlebars and rims and tires and has a black hood.
Problems castle nut for the lower a arm is still MIA waitin for that to arrive any day front left tire has damaged rim so doesant hold air heel guard mounting bracket is broken and it hasnt wanted to start lately. The not starting one im having a hard time figuring out might have to call a certain member for some advice. This is my first non honda quad so its a little rough so far but I think well figure this one out.

@Aaron.

This is the funyunized rappy.

I know mine had problems starting in the cold, I think I had to hook a jumper to it maybe 2 different times (the real cold stuff).

Next thing I'd go onto is swapping the plug out and checking the TPS? Thoughts?

you bought an atv from funyun?  Why?

 JK.

fouked plug? Did somebody mess with the AF screw? I have had a problem or two when the weather changes.

I'm thinkin I'm gonna stop and get a plug on my way home today and drain the gas put new gas in and well see what happens after that I guess, unless anyone else has some cheap ideas
Title: Re: Its a Long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll
Post by: Krandall on February 12, 2011, 09:12:32 AM
those are the 2 easiest things to start off with.

I'm really leaning towards the TPS though, especially since it's basically 100% stock.

I don't know where to check that or what its at, I haven't picked up a service manual yet and don't wanna bring the laptop out in the garage

TPS is on the side of the throttle body, big black box with 2 security screws.

It should read .067-.070 volts from the middle (yellow) wire on the plug with key on. the one that is shown is from a power commander tap, the factory plug is plugged in lower.

Edit- rechecked spec and it is 0.63 ~ 0.73 V (yellow-black/blue wires)

Do you have a voltmeter?

You'll need one to test it. if you hvae everything off to get the power commander hooked up, it'll be easy to test.

Post by: Johny_Ringo on February 12, 2011, 11:22:46 AM
Negative on the volt meter but I can pick one up, so should I try to fix this problem now or should I just put on the power commander pipes and intake with the map for it and see what happens ????

Title: Re: Its a Long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll
Post by: Johny_Ringo on February 12, 2011, 12:39:30 PM
well I bought the stuff came home figured lets try her again, she didnt start just turned over I gave her a little gas after about 3 secs of turnovers battery died. So I put it on the charger she blinked at me after 10 mins over 80% so I said wth one more time LOL and it started right away and threw out some smoky exhaust for a good min then ran and sounded fine gas i let it run for about 5 mins shut it off would have rode it but cant still missing the castle nut. turned it off let it sit for 10 secs and it started right up well see what happens in a few hours I guess

Yeah make sure you keep that battery charged, it'll be very stubborn if it's not charged up

Yeah I had charged it yesterday 100% and it wouldn't start so I'm still lost but ill try tonite see what happens and put the big 3 in on tueday

Since it is a Funyun-ized bike, I would check the battery cables, he sure knew how to "rig" stuff up. Maybe it is as simple as that

When I first got my quad the seller didn't know why it wouldn't start. Got it home put the battery on the charger and once it was charged it took a few times then it started up, then the smoky exhaust came out for a bit then it was fine. After that we did an oil change, new gas and spark plug.

Sometimes it just the little things that are needed to get it going.

Well didn't start charged it and it did so I'm gonna change the battery then big 3 on tues and well see what happens from there thanks for all the tips and input I hope its just the battery but have a sneaking suspicion there's something else so hopefully ill be all  tues night

be sure to check your valve adjustment too, with any four stroke that doesn't start good thats the first place I check.  Tight valves make it hard to start.  and if nothing else, you'll know your valves are adjusted.

Makes sense ill have to check that out, I'm starting to wonder if it is the throttle position sensor cause I tryed to start on Sunday didn't start but I made sure not to run down the battery, came out 30 mins later and it fired right up so you would think its getting to much gas right?

My Rappy can sit for a month & it'll start @ 0 degrees. I let the fuel pump cycle 2x & start it, then it usually dies. Lol.  I let the pump cycle again & then it'll run fine. Never any starting problems.  When its that cold it does turn over longer before it fires.

A tech manual would be a good thing to have for reference.  A few things you might like, OMI steering stem mount. 2007 rear cross drilled rotor.  Everyone here will be happy to help you spend your money.

I have pipe power commander and intake, I think a cam and hi comp piston will get the power done I don't really wanna mess with the reliability to much

think hes saying you dont really have enough power to "need" a swingarm.

It's a personal preference. Long swingarms make quads less fun IMHO. But nobody cares about my opinion

Question on the plastics, are those aftermarket or painted stockers? I don't remember a red front set on any of the 700s.

There aftermarket maier. I wanted somethin different from anyone else and i didnt like any of the oem except black and yellow but i wasnt about to pay $100 somethin for oem decals. So i went red and black its probably cause ive been a honda guy my whole life.

How do you like the fitment on them? When I had CF Maiers they didn't line up very well with my chassis mounts, and they were a little annoying to take off sometimes. But those do look killer and very unique
