I don't know if it is a bad thing or not, but my sprocket hub would get a little play in it and I would just loosen the allen lock screw on the axle nut and tighten the axle nut a bit, just to where there was no more play in the hub, then tighten the allen set screw back up. I have done this a couple of times. Bearings still seem ok in the carrier, but I am not sure how long they will last with the thing being tightened up more than what it calls for.
