What, no ATV's drag racing  ???
GROVE CREEK RACEWAY 1/8 Mile 2008 Current Record Holdershttp://www.grovecreek.com/track_records.htm

The site has changed recently so I can't find the previous ATV record holder, I thought it was a Predator 500 @ 72 mph.   I will be visiting the track soon

I'm going to try 15/36 gearing on the highway & see how that works.....

People at the track are really cool & aside from safety issues I think they'd let anything race

If you go to watch a night race it like $10 to get in & you can have a bonfire, grill & drink beer while watching the races  8)

Work was exciting today & I forgot to call the dragstrip.....

They have races scheduled through the end of October. I plan on going the 27th but I'll call about the quad & see.  I'd be dissapointed if they wouldn't allow quads     If not I'll bring the bike & try not to crash

Link to the schedule
http://www.grovecreek.com/schedule.htm

Good times
-hanging by the start line & being shaded from the sun by a cloud of tire smoke
-smelling the Nitrous when they purge the system during a burnout
-watching the rear tires wrinkle  on a launch
-cars popping the front tires off the start

Quad will be allowed without knobby tires  ??? & appropiate rider safety gear racing with the sleds & bikes. Trophy class is $40 & guaranteed 4 runs before losing. As Rick pointed out the Raptor doesn't have to be as fast as the sleds or bikes, just consistent runs to win   Yah, like that'll happen
I wanted to bring my "bald" stockers & do several John Force inspired burnouts but the NHRA rules dictate no knobbies.  Not going to melt my Duro's  :)  My stockers have left rubber on my fenders before, I wonder how warm they were . . .

You need to run the Duros

You need to run the Duros
Why, wheel spin equals wheelies in my world  ???
I'm planning on a good old fashioned tire smoking that makes people think I'm a idiot for putting that much heat in my tires, should be good for a laugh

I got juiced up on Sat night & somehow  ??? convinced myself my buddy needs to be the jockey since he's 145 lb's.  He has sunday open this weekend so were heading up sunday in the am.  My buddy has a Artic Cat 700 4x4 & I may try to convince him to race his quad so I can race mine.  :help:  "Duh" (Homer Simpson)

I guess we'll be there by 8:30 sunday morning & everything is wrapped up by around 5pm.  Finals will start around noon.  As of now I'm the pitman with camera & bottled water

Time trials start @ 9am today & the forecast is 51 degrees ....brrrr  with a high of 70.  Should be a nice day at the track followed up by a bike ride

My buddy is driving today since I beleived a lighter jockey would be the ticket.  In the last couple of days he's been practicing his runs & will knock out some runs this morning before we leave.  He was shifting late & I did some runs to show him how I ride & he was thinking I was crazy for shifting so soon.  I was able to get into 5th much sooner than him.  He needs more time practicing starts, when the front end comes up I think he gets a little nervous

WE didn't pass tech inspection this morning.  Quad needs a 1/8 aluminum chain guard covering the top & sides.

We watched some time trials & decided to go ride Appleton & had fun.

That's crazy. For what purpose do they require something like  that? ???

I'm glad you guys had fun anyways @ Appleton!

The chain guard can be .060 steel or 1/8 aluminum.  Not sure if I have the proper tools to fab a steel chain guard  I don't own a TIG or know how to use one so...
I have to enlist the help of some friends & see if this chain guard will be a reality in 2 weeks.  As of now I'm not getting my hopes up, all I can say is we'll see.....

could you just get some basic specs measured up and take it to a weld shop? shouldn't be to much.

Well most of the guys I know would be willing to work for beer. So if they have time after 5pm everything should work out  Being the busy fall harvest season here I can't speak for my friends time. Otherwise I'd ask nicely & walla

Believe me when I say I thought of you guys within minutes of not passing tech, Tommy's got a Rappy for fab purposes & you could PC it for me .  The only thing stopping me from having you  guys knock it out is the design  ???  I'll give you a call & let you know my ideas  ::)

The cheapest estimate I found was $50 & I think thats to much for a possible 1 time use item.  My Raptor's not fast, I just wanted to race once for fun.  I will be  making the chain guard myself & that will be a winter project.  I will be contacting a guy I know to make a wheelie bar.  I'm looking forward to some spring runs,  & that'll give me time to buy a FCI intake & get a custom curve made for the dynatek
 ;)

My helmet doesn't meet there specs either so I'll be buying a new helmet

What do they require for the helmets? A Full shield?
Title: Re: Drag Racing 1/8 mile Grove Creek Mn
Post by: Bert on October 09, 2008, 03:51:01 PM
Full shield that is DOT/SNELL & some 5000 spec (fire safety)  ???
Gives me a reason to buy a new bike helmet

Pipestone has a TT track that sounds fun.
In New Ulm there's a track that is more XC than MX if that makes sense  ???
If I think of it I'll look for a youtube link later.

I'll take a look at D23's schedule of events, you have a link
