Title: HMF slip on for the wolverine. (pics and vids added 7-19-08)
Post by: Warren on July 16, 2008, 05:17:10 PM
some of you may have read my thread about my issues getting the slip-on onto the wolvy. well i found out that i just gave up on it too soon.

i ended up having to filing out the mounting holes to get the bolts to go in but i got it. and that was the only other issue. the cleanace issue went away when i got the bolt tightened down.

when i started it up i could deffinently tell there was an HMF on there. a really deep rumble at idle and a really loud high end. i took it out for a test ride and my first impressions were basically disappointing. but then the engine got warmed up. and holy shit this thing came alive. it can wheelie now without holding the brake, revving it up and yanking my sholder out of socket to get the front end off the ground. all you have to do is give it the gas and a little tug and shes going skyward. from a dead stop when you punch the gas the rear tires spin alittle and the front tires come off the ground about an inch (not much, but for this big thing with a 280 pound jockey on it's back thats alot) when rolling down the road you can still feel the power when you punch the gas. EDIT: i forgot to put in here that the top end was effected too. i gained 2 MPH on the top end. and again that is with a 280 pound rider.

i am really happy with this exhaust and how well it performs. it sounds great and has the power to back it up. i would highly recommend this pipe to anyone in the market for a 450 wolverine exhaust.

if anyone has any questions about it let me know i will answer them as best i can.

i'll try post videos of before and after and pics maybe this weekend.

here's a few pics and vids of the new pipe.

and here's one of after. (it's kind of sputterine because it's not warmed up yet)

here's a video i took when we were rolling down the road. (near the end i tried zooming in on the speedometer but it couldn't focus)

What was the price of the exhaust? Also did you put a different intake on it?

the price was $250 for the slip-on straight from HMF. and i haven't got a different intake put on it yet. i'm going to be making a custom air box to accept a clamp on style K&N filter. and i will be running a #145 main jet when i get it.

Get that jet in there and it will be even better...my wolverine with the HMF, dynojet kit, and hauck clutch would run dead even with my buddys old grizz 700 up until about 50, then he crawls by me.  For tight trails where you dont get much over 35-40, this is the perfect quad in my opinion.

here is a sound clip of mine

and here is a quick 0-50 run....its no raptor, but quick for a little 450 4x4.

she can tell there is more power. i think she's alittle scared to use all of it now. she didn't want to try a wheelie when i asked if she wanted to. lol. and yeah the low end is alot better. with my big ass on it, it still gets up and goes like hell.

I looked at the bottom of the line Elka's for $4-500
I don't know what the problem is, spring rate or valving?
New springs are $80 I think.  If they are easy to install then $160 to fix the soft shocks isn't bad.

i haven't really noticed anything bad about the suspension. i don't ride it most of the time my G/F does. but i was just asking for future reference.

I rode my sister's Wolvy with low hours & was riding under 5 mph, the front end rolls hard during an extreme turn at low speeds  ::)
