What sproket should I run??
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:41:48 AM »
Only mods are HMF full exhust, open air box with an K&N filter, 160-165 main jets, and 25 pilots.  I am looking to get out of ther corners a little quicker, not really worried about top speed, so I guess more torque is what I am after but still need to keep the fropnt wheels on the ground.  Would a 42 tooth rear give me the torque I am looking for?

Dropping to a 12 front while keeping the stock 40 rear is the most popular gearing setup (besides stock) for the 660.  It is especially popular among stock and piped raptors.  If you're thinking you want the 42 I too would suggest trying the 12 front first.  Benefits are that the fronts are 1/2 the price or cheaper than rear sprockets and the front sprocket is also easier to change, meanwhile you don't lose any ground clearance or have to worry about rubbing your swingarm skid plate with a new front sprocket vs a larger rear.

Thanks MadDog, explained like that it makes a lot of sense to go with the front sproket.  I think ill give it a shot!
