Alkire193 XC Build *Updated 8-16-2011*
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:09:46 AM »
As it stands right now, JVR will no longer be performing my GNCC racer build. It is possible that the GNCC turbo will still be made, however that is up in the air. I have gone ahead and made the decision to move the build to Shawn's house (Preddy08) whenever someone "else's 795" stops taking up all the space in the man's garage.   Motor will probably be shipped out to be rebuilt and reworked. More than likely Team Rocket Factory at this point.

8-15-11: I've added everything I have for the build. Just getting it out there. Some things I am still hedged on but still lots of time for decisions.

8-10-11: Discussing with my aluminum fabricator buddy of having the fuel tank custom made. He has some ideas but the welds will have to be done by an outside source. He said no problem on making a tank to fit the OEM components, he just wants the frame and seat so he can understand what he is working with.
8-15-11: Also looking to have a company out of Nashville custom mold the tank (plastic/ rubber) to match the factory tank mounting. Have to call them soon to start on the details.

8-10-11: Swapping some of the components for items already installed on my old 770 build. I don't see a reason to make a second +2 head when mine only had 10 hours on it. Same with my 13:1 105mm CP piston. Both did very well. The GNCC turbo will more than likely have a Bo Port and JE piston when/ if it gets assembled.

How about you tell us how you really feel and lets get this shit handled.

1. Your bike, where the FERK is it?

2. Does it take years to achieve your goals on the above list? (Tonto and I nearly did the above in 20 hours on my bike.)

You'll spell out "shit" but not "f**k"?

I feel like the 770 build from a few years ago was lugging because of the cam and the gearing (RJ cam, 36/15 gearing). Also, there was more power left on the table with the restrictive TB and clutch slippage in the upper RPM. not to mention a blown head gasket.

The quad is in pieces in Utah, torn down in several tiny little boxes.

Honestly, no. I was able to build the 770 motor in less than a week once all the parts arrived. But since im overseas I am at the mercy of others AND I am not in need of my atv just yet. So I set a timeline for the atv to be done by the time I get home. Ill be home at this time next year if all goes well.

Well, lets get Aaron to go pick your boxes up, cut your losses, and get this circus show on the road. I know a couple of guys that would love to get your pieces back together, that aren't going through a mid life crises, divorce, and bankruptcy.

Yeah, I'm pushing for you to spill the beans and vent your frustrations.... Do ya blame me??

Screw my frustrations. This isn't Oprah, this IS SPARTA!!.....er....um.....RaptorSource.....  :P

I'm just looking for input on my engine. The 770 did great, and had more to go. So i'd like to hear some input on getting this one done right and ready for some GNCC

Someone say Sparta?

What's with the X2 cam? I would think you'd want a Web4 or 5050 with those motor specs...I run a web4 on a 727cc stroker and it does fine in the woods

For 2 years I had the X4 on the sheet until a few weeks ago. I started thinking more XC instead of top end. That's where things started to get dicey.

The X2 is a good low end power delivery cam, but would I be better with a power curve that delivers in the first 3K or across the whole range? What about a late delivery cam that provides solid torque at the start then lots of HP later on for the straight runs where im not needing the hill climbing torque?

If this was SCORE and I was going to Baja i'd say X4 without question. But in the woods I started to think X2 would be the better performer. But im impartial because of re-thinking the whole engine so what do you think? I'm open to suggestion

Chris..first off, sorry I missed your pm :(

As for the cam, and your goal to extend rpms, I would go straight to the web 4. The lower rpm power difference isn't enough to worry about, and the higher rpm performance in the web 4 will worth it.

You are forgiven, only cause your wife likes me better.

I'm looking for solid power through the rpm range. I'd sacrifice high dyno numbers for consistent power. On my old quad if i was mid range in 3rd you couldn't get the smile off my face. I just looked over the old dyno sheet again, it really does lag up to 5k. A very steep peak with the rj cam. I also think believe Shaun and I were discussing the x4 not handling the woods very well. Does the x2 drop clean off after mid range?

Txredxj - I hear ya. The crank in there will give torque, pairing it with the right piston and cam is important.

105mm 10.75:1 and the x-2 cam. I have +2 TB. And no Ignition.

Here's what mine looked like w/ the x2.

Barker +2 or RE +2 head.
Web 4, or RE's big boy, or the RJ. Depends on the head you go with.
Falcon +6 or Barker +7...
just get ARP stud kit.

I have TRF stud kits already for cylinder and head. 2x sets, one for each build. I agree ARP is a great brand though
I was going to grab a Barker crank and have falicon swap in a long rod, then lighten it. Expensive but it seemed like a good idea when I talked to them on the phone. I have been looking, I can't find Barker cranks are their website at all. Found them on TRF though.
Never heard much of anything for the RE Big Boy. WEBB 4 is making a comeback. Im thinking by not being so ignorant with my gearing I could see positive results with the WEBB 4.
I have the KDS +2 already, maybe just rebuild it and use that? KDS did make some great heads, they just didn't ship them to people.

Randy, that is what I needed to see. X-2 pours on the power early then tapers off a little through the range, then the HP keeps climbing. I still wish the power would come earlier in the range though. Some great numbers for your 727.

I have no experience with any of the big cams, but I do know the x-2 is a beast in the trails 8)

Your choice of intake and TB size will determine your RPM range the most, but a big cam with with a longer duration like the web 4 will help maximize on that range.

Also, you need to consider not only what will give you the best power for your application, but how much power will the track/course hold. Even with 15-36 gears at 9K feet, the tq of my bike makes me oversteer badly on corner exit. Power is only as good as what you can put to the ground for your races.

Personally, I think your 770 was plenty, but you're the racer not me.
