660 rear brakes
« on: October 09, 2008, 09:15:52 AM »
Is anyone having trouble keeping pads on the rear brakes?  New wave rotor, 3rd set of pads in about 9 or 10 rides.  Rotor isn't bent, brakes work fine, and the caliper doesn't seem to be seized up.  Is there an advantage to name brand pads and rotors?  I'm really getting sick of working on my brakes.

Did you take the bike in for the recall on the rear brake a couple years ago?

Didn't know they had one.  Was there a recall for the 05's?

My apologies, recall was for the 2001-2004 models only.

I have used the OEM pads and rotor and I'm still on the original rotor and I believe my 2nd set of pads though I admit I haven't even run the rear brake most of the last 2 years.  Adjustment of the cable and brake fluid levels would be my next consideration, but I would imagine you've looked into these already.

only trouble I have is the outboard pad wearing out sooner than the inboard. If you are using the wave rotor, you need a much stronger pad IMO. Are you running sand? That wears them out faster......

Sand, dirt, everything.  I have my parking brake blocked off, too.  I have the sintered pads now.  I'll see how they last.
