North sand hills OHV area, aka Walden sand dunes, and Colorado for that matter, has adopted the 96db law that some other states have. The only db metering devices that they have to test us with is the Type 2 tester that is accurate supposedly to + or - 2 db. I have had my Barkers tested up in Walden 3 times. The results were, 101, 99, and 98db. I have been up there on non holiday weekends, and have not been checked so far. Holiday weekends they came through every camp checking for spark arrestors, and OHV stickers. I did have one of them ask me to be tested, and I asked the guy to see his metering device first. Woulden't you know it, his calibration sticker was overdue. I just simply said, "If your metering device is not calibrated and certified, there is no reason for you to test me". The guy just walked away from me with no further issues. Just wanted to give all of you the heads up on the bull$hit laws that are now in place here. I highly doubt that it will be an issue on an off holiday weekend, but I would be pissed off if I drove all the way in from out of state only to be ticketed for something that I had no clue about. Hope this helps. Look forward to seing all of you there. Here is a link to the new laws. DD

I have to buy a Razr , just to go on this rally. Then I have to haul it, and I have to get my truck......the things I do for a Rally. Everyone better start signing up!
Well, the crazy kiwi also known as Dragonz is gonna see if I can swing it!
If I can fly 12000miles, whats a 20 hour drive :-)

I find that it might end up at a few Rally's without my say.
What do you think? RAZR XP 900? Sticker price is bulls***, but maybe I can get one used later this year for 14 or 13.5. If I can stick it at your place for my Rally trips until I get back home that would be great!
I'll let the giant green Kawi rider know, not sure if he'll make it but I might be able to persuade some of his family that is on the retired agenda to come out...

Taking a real serious look at the feasibility of making this happen...
I know none of you but I have to be in attendance for this GTG.Why learn how to ride it? Half the members of this site can't ride. :P
I just bought my Raptor so I better learn to ride this son of a gun before I come out.

I'll be looking at about 72' with the trailer, should we be planning on taking the south entrance in that case or would we be alright going through the north ? Post 1 said there's only 1 entrance, so I'm a bit confused sandeater, could you clarify ?
Thats good to know now! My first time up there I asked around in town and they said "Oh, you'll see the dunes and theres a sign saying dunes"
:bs: I was in Wy before I realized where the phuck I was  I'm sure Aaron or someone could rig up a sign or something letting everyone know where to turn.
Right on, good info ! Thanks
Great info sandeater

We could ask the BLM if it is okay.
I did a dune clean up a few years ago and posted signs for directions and nobody said anything about it but seems like things have changed up there since then so its always good to cover ourselves.
By June deadmans might be pretty tame especially if the rails get down in there and knock it down pretty good. I remember driving by there in February or March a couple of years ago and you couldn't even get onto Road 6E or whatever it is from Hwy 125 because there was so much snow.
This is what it looked like that year in June:

Good News!!! Wife was talking about taking a vac. back to CO. this year. I tell lets go the week of June 17-19 and I will go riding at Walden with the quad junkies. So said fine you go do that I will go visit and other things. So I will try and work out some things to try and catch someone on there way up so they dont have to drive to Walden. Anyway still going to work on this we will see what happens.
The dunes are not that big for sure, but if you drop into the wrong chute, it can take all day to get out of.

Howdy all, has the snow started melting yet? I'm planning to make this ride. Are the Oklahoma boys coming? Anyone in the northern Utah area want to go, hit me up. Can haul up to seven quads in my rig. Four folks comfortably in the truck (with entertainment )Cool Mike! Yes, the Okies will be there, and of course the Colorado contingent.

I'm screwed for any chance to get there!

Vacation...........................................approved!!!
Time to sweep the dust off the ol' studded tires threads that everyone pretended to be interested in awhile back.
Just got a call from a few guys that were in Walden this weekend. They said that the entire North side still had snow drifts that were impassable. They said that the run off had not even started yet, "No river". To all of you that are on the fence about making it to this rally, if there was ever a year to make it to Walden, this would be it for sure. One more thing, bring all the extra parts you have that could possibly break durning a roll over. Most everyone that I talked to broke something this weekend. Can't wait.

Anyone coming from No. Colorado know of a good place to fill up with water near Laramie or possibly closer to camp? I hate to haul the extra weight from home if I don't have to...
I think we will be up there on Wednesday. Any updates on how much snow is left?
I might try to bring the Outty 800 so we have a tow truck. ;)
thanks for the info, I also found a KOA at the Snowy Range exit in Laramie as well, makes a good stopping point for gas and water on my way up...I am so glad it is only a week and a day away! I hope I am not the only one with a million things to do...I haven't even de-winterized the camper yet. Feel better?
heard good things already from Aaron about the tree shoots! :)
No worries Scott! It was funny as hell, just don't make a habit of it
