Title: How do you remove the valves?
Post by: Livingmylife93 on June 04, 2010, 09:55:42 PM
I cant seem to get my valves out. The head is off the bike and all, but i cant seem to get the rocker arms out if that is what i need to do... All 4 are warped so its time for new...

Did you pull the rocker arm pivot pins out? You have to use a small slide hammer or an extraction kit....they're kinda pressed into the head.

I think it is like 6mm but not 100% sure.

It is 6mm.  You need abot 8-10 inches of all-thread and a nut to use it as a puller.

Ace hardware...Or you can just get the kit from DL700. I think it is about 20 bucks...

i know somebody on here has an alternate method to get the valves out?

Get some standard all thread that is close to 6mm then use a metric tap on it to re-cut the threads to metric.

Its rough cutting standard to metric. I'd suggest finding steel rod and cut threads that way.

That'd work too...Or get a longer metric bolt and just put a nut below the bolt head to push down on the spacer. I am not sure how long the ones in the "kit" are, haven't tried one myself yet. I've also heard of people using a small slide hammer to pull it out

Get a metric die and cut new threads into it...like one of these dies

What kind of tool do you guys use to get the valves out? I have 3 differant vavle tools but none can really fit in the head

Have to use a valve spring compressor to push down on it and remove the keepers...when someone did mine they used a cut socket on a c-clamp to push down on the spring. It has 2 keepers per valve and we removed them using a magnet.
